Hotel Vegas Tuesday
This Tuesday night at Hotel Vegas, the spotlight lands on two ATX artists performing on the patio stage, 1502 E. 6th St. And both happen to be AMM faves:
- The Deer got its start as the solo project of songwriter, vocalist and musician Grace Rowland, and with the formation of the group came the dark and beautiful An Argument For Observation, followed by the loving tribute to late artist Stephanie Bledsoe, On the Essence of the Indomitable Spirit (2015), and the psyched-out Southern Gothic brilliance of Tempest & Rapture (2016). Though many fan favorites can be found on the aforementioned recordings, their latest and arguably best is Do No Harm (2019), released on Keeled Scales. Rowland’s vocal prowess is pure magic, versatile, enchanting.
- Marcus William Striplin is the creative force behind the broad sweeps and Latin folk-inspired, multi-layered journey of Margaret Chavez. While incorporating so many varied influences, from psychedelia to rock, alt.-country, folk, and electronic, the music still refreshingly and unrelentingly defies genre. From gentle croon to thunderous soundscape, every moment composed by Striplin is cathartic.
