Authoritarian governments are increasingly using ‘foreign agent’ laws to intimidate and suppress civil society organizations and journalists. A new report by the nonprofit CIVICUS describes how this type of legislation has crushed the work of NGOs in countries including El Salvador, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan and Nicaragua.
