Is History Repeating Itself With The J6 Political Prisoners… a U.S. District Judge is Warning Conservatives & Republicans – Don’t Protest!
- Stewart Rhodes, founder of the Oath Keepers, was sentenced to 18 years in prison for “seditious conspiracy” in connection with Jan. 6 Capitol attack by U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta despite not entering the Capitol or committing an act of violence.
- The sentence is one of the longest imposed on a Jan. 6 defendant and serves as a warning to conservatives and Republicans concerning political protest, as prosecutors argued that Mr. Rhodes must serve a significant jail time to discourage future action.
- Charges were based on Civil War era law which defines seditious conspiracy as two or more people plotting “to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States or to levy war against them” through force or prevented execution of any federal law.
- Other examples of this include Aaron Burr’s trial for attempting leaving some states to leave the Union and seize land from Spain and Mexico; Christiana resistance in 1851 whereby escaped slaves resisted U.S. Marshalls seeking to capture them; Nelson Mandela’s detainment from 1962-90 for anti-apartheid activism; and Gandhi’s imprisonments between 1908-44 for leading Indian independence movement.
