How To Honour His Presence 231125
Description
Here are five practical, daily ways we honour His presence, so His glory can rest in our lives just like it did in Obed-Edom’s house.
1. Welcome Him Intentionally
James 4:8 declares, ‘Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.’
God is not hiding, He is waiting. Waiting for invitation. Waiting for priority. Waiting for a heart that says, ‘Holy Spirit, You are welcome here.’
Have you ever walked into someone’s home where you knew you were welcome? They meet you at the door, hug you, take your coat, ask what you want to drink—they make space for you.
But have you ever walked into a home where you weren’t sure? They barely look up. They don’t move anything for you. You don’t know where to sit.
Holy Spirit goes where He is wanted, not where He is simply noticed. Many believers acknowledge Him, but few welcome Him.
Stop rushing your prayer. Stop microwaving your worship. Give God real time, not leftovers. When you enter the secret place, take a moment and whisper: ‘Holy Spirit, You are welcome here.’
• He responds to invitation.
2. Walk In Obedience
Jesus said in John 14:15 , ‘If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.’
You cannot keep rebellion in your life and expect His glory to rest on you. Obedience opens the door; disobedience closes it.
Think of electricity. The energy company can send power to your house, but if the switch is off, the light won’t shine. Obedience is the switch.
Some believers are praying for more presence, but heaven is saying: ‘Flip the switch’ Forgive that person. Drop that habit. Go where He is leading. Stop doing what He said stop. Start doing what He said start. Flip the switch.
Because where obedience flows, His presence grows.
3. Maintain A Pure Heart
Psalm 24:3–4 asks: ‘Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully.’
Purity attracts the presence of God. Not perfection but purity of heart. Holy Spirit is gentle. He doesn’t dwell in polluted spaces.
If you invited a guest into your house but the room you prepared was filled with trash, dirty laundry and a bad smell—you would never feel comfortable inviting them in. Not because you don’t want them, but because the atmosphere wasn’t prepared.
Some believers want God’s glory in a room filled with bitterness, unforgiveness, compromise, secret sin and iniquity.
Purity prepares the house for His presence.
Live with forgiveness. Walk in integrity. Choose humility. Keep short accounts with people.
• Make your heart a home Holy Spirit enjoys.
4. Live A Life Of Worship
Romans 12:1 tells us: ‘I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.’
Worship is not just what happens between the soundcheck and the sermon. Worship is surrender. A lifestyle. A posture.
Honouring God with your: time, your talk, your walk and your work
Church, we need a flame that keeps burning in our hearts on Monday, on Thursday, in traffic, at work, at school, a lifestyle of worship.
When worship becomes your lifestyle, His presence becomes your companion.
5. Stay Filled With The Spirit
Ephesians 5:18 says: ‘…be filled with the Spirit.’
That’s a continual command. Not once, but always. Not ‘I was filled in 1980.’ Not “I felt Him last conference. No, stay filled.
How? Pray in the Spirit. Live in the Word. Feed your soul with His presence. Check your connection daily.
Stay full—and when you’re full, you overflow. And overflowing vessels change the atmosphere around them.
Hosting The King of Glory
When the Ark stayed in Obed-Edom’s house, blessing overflowed. Not because God visited but because God dwelt.
Now imagine…Imagine what happens when you and I host Jesus, not for three months, but for a lifetime! • Imagine a church that doesn’t just have good services, but carries His glory out the doors.
Imagine homes where worship rises, where forgiveness flows, where the Holy Spirit is honoured.
Imagine believers who wake up saying, “Good morning, Holy Spirit.” Church, we don’t want better meetings, we want the manifest, tangible presence of Jesus.
Because when we honour His presence: He heals the sick. He breaks the chains. He fills dry hearts. He turns houses into revival centres. He brings blessing wherever He dwells.
So let’s lift up our heads! Let’s open the gates! Let the King of Glory come in!
Let His presence rest on your heart. Let His presence fill your home. Let His presence saturate this church.
Because where His presence dwells…there is power, there is peace, and there is blessing! - Amen
