Assuming President-elect Donald Trump succeeds in imposing massive tariffs on goods imported from other countries, some manufacturing may move back to the U.S., or at least closer to the nation, says Art Koch, an expert in supply chain management.

But don’t look for any sudden significant increase in domestic manufacturing simply because the trained workers are not available, he says.

“We have to do a lot more education and training,” he says. “I don’t think it can be turned around in a short time.”

Mr. Koch is the author of the new book, “The Supply Chain Revolution: Unlocking the Sustainable Profit Chain,” (Business Expert Press, June 2024).
