Description
IndigeQuit is a research study comparing two smartphone apps for American Indian/Alaska Native (AIAN) people quitting smoking.
The study was created by scientists at Seattle's Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and the Black Hills Center for American Indian Health in collaboration with an advisory board of AIAN community members. Our lead investigators are:
- Dr. Lonnie A. Nelson, a descendant of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (Ani Kituwah) and a leading expert in smoking cessation interventions to reduce health inequities in AIAN communities, based at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.
- Dr. Patricia Nez Henderson, a Navajo Nation Tribal citizen and a leading expert in health disparities research in the field of tobacco and nicotine addiction focusing on Indigenous peoples and Tribal communities, based at the Black Hills Center for American Indian Health.
- Dr. Jonathan Bricker, a scientist who specializes in smoking cessation research. He is a Full Professor at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and Affiliate Professor at the University of Washington.
- Dean S. Seneca, MPH, MCURP, Seneca Nation, a national expert on indigenous health, teaches courses on the subject at the University of Buffalo School of Public Health and Health Professions. He was a first responder at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He also served as tribal planning director for the Seneca Nation of Indians.
