In this episode of "My Tech Story" hosted by Alice Kanjejo, Dominic Mulinda, the Product Success Lead at fintech company HoneyCoin, shares his journey into product management.

Dominic Mulinda previously served as Chief Product Officer at a bootstrapped software development company in Nairobi before joining HoneyCoin.

Dominic's tech story began in school, where he walked into the innovation lab and met a computer science major. Together, they built an app called Pigeon to help people easily access delivery services (before they became a big thing). However, the product eventually sunsetted due to low profitability.

According to Dominic, building products requires acknowledging the bias that one overconfidently assumes what they can and cannot do. He believes that success in product management comes from understanding critical mistakes that cannot be made and continuously learning.

As a venture-backed company, Mulinda joined HoneyCoin with a focus on bringing value and tangible impact to users. He views a product lead's role as ensuring productivity within the team and managing stakeholder relationships.

Domnic's advice to those starting in tech is to build a safety net by staying up to date on industry knowledge, seeking powerful partnerships, and stepping outside of their comfort zone.
