Joanna Trzeciak Huss: Translation and the Perception of ‘Worlds not Words’
Update: 2024-01-14
Description
In the latest episode of Holistic Podcasts, Professor Joanna Trzeciak Huss from Kent State University talks about slow translation, the need to acknowledge collaboration, and how ‘untranslatability’ is ‘unhelpful’.
“I don’t think that untranslatability is a helpful concept – it should have died long ago,” she underlines.
“I’m moving away from the notion of achievement of an individual translator to acknowledging translation as a collaborative effort. I rely on dictionaries that were compiled through the enormous effort of many individuals, over many years, and in my case over many centuries,” says Trzeciak Huss on how translation is not the work of a sole individual.
