Description

We all have our own quirks or features that make us who we are. Often, we are aware of what sets us apart from the rest of the crowd, but what if you were unable to understand why you felt different? Why you were not able to connect with people, yet you think are doing what you are supposed to “socially.” Often this is the plight with someone that is diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). ASD is complex and a very wide spectrum, often associated with developmental and/or social delays. Often appearing early on in childhood, currently, there is no confirmed cause, but does affect people in many different ways including relationships, development, and self-regulation. With increasing knowledge almost daily and growing awareness, acceptance of this common diagnosis is finally reaching an area that it belongs to.

This week to the show, Jim welcomes Jude Morrow. Jude is a traveling speaker and noted author that was diagnosed with ASD early in his life. Unable to speak well in his younger years, Jude found solace in books and reading. Knowing that he felt “different” he would often do his best to hide his Autism out of shame but now is very proud and open of the challenges that he has overcome, and loves to share his experiences. In doing so has led him to tour circuits speaking to many different groups and organizations and even writing a book that is titled Why Does Daddy Always Look So Sad. A telling of challenges that he faced growing up, and what he faces now that he is a father himself.

Jude Morrow is a huge advocate for Autism research and awareness as well as finding Autistic creatives and helping them get their work into the world. His book is certainly a fantastic read for anyone and provides great insight into the struggles that someone with ASD regularly encounters. You can purchase his book through online retailers or through his website judemorrow.com. You can also follow him on social media @judemorrow.
