Judge Denies Humphreys' COVID-19 Execution Delay
Update: 2025-12-11
Description
A federal judge in Georgia has denied Stacey Humphreys request to halt his upcoming execution, despite his lawyers arguments that he should be protected by a pandemic-era agreement. Humphreys, convicted of killing two women in 2003, claims the agreement still delays some executions but not his. The agreement, made during the pandemic, set conditions for resuming executions, including a widely available vaccine. However, Humphreys lawyers argue these conditions havent been fully met. The state counters that Humphreys isnt covered as his appeal was rejected after the judicial emergency ended. Additionally, Humphreys has requested a change in execution procedure due to health issues, fearing a torturous and grotesque spectacle.
