Description

On July 4, 2017, while Americans all over the United States were celebrating Independence Day with barbecues, fireworks, and quality family time, 9-year-old Kayla Unbehaun was spending time visiting her mother in Wheaton, Illinois. The following day, her father, Ryan Iskerka, left work and went to pick up his daughter, Kayla. However, when he arrived at Kayla’s mother’s residence, Kayla and her mother, Heather, were nowhere to be found. Heather’s father and uncle told Ryan that Heather had taken Kayla camping in Wisconsin but Ryan knew that something wasn’t right and immediately called police. In the 18 months that have passed since that day, Kayla and Heather have not been seen or heard from. Heather Unbehaun currently has an active warrant for felony kidnapping.

I live a couple towns over from Wheaton- I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS CASE!!!!!! That guy from missing persons said that this was widely known.... ummmm no it's not. This is so sad. I really hope he finds his daughter. That poor little girl being put in this situation.

I feel so sorry for her father. He sounds like a genuine, smart, caring man who just wanted to love his daughter. This isn't fair to him. The lack of support is pretty sad. I hope one day he gets his happy ending. Kayla, as well.

This is one of those cases where the lack of evidence may have law enforcement looking for the wrong crime & guilty party. It does sound like a kidnapping but......

Another thought. Based on his account of the court dealings, I'm surprised the judge didn't question Heather's mental health and order some kind of evaluation. I mean, it may have happened and that part didn't make the cut, but I don't recall any mention of a diagnosed mental illness and that would be relevant to the story.

This one destroyed me. This father sounds like such a genuinely kind, amazing human, and I feel like he has extended more kindness to his child's mom than 99.5% of people would in this scenario. I'm sending love and light in hopes of Kayla's safe homecoming.

Timothy Carlaw it sounds like because the mother took the child everyone doesn't care a whole lot despite like we are told actually a lot of times when a non-condensing parent takes a kid it can be by force. honestly I just feel this whole thing could of been handled so much better and a young girl is missing because of the negligence or lack of care by the law I just feel if more was done things may be different.

This whole story was heartbreaking. I do think the judge taking away the mom's custody rights was wrong in the beginning. He could have ordered the mother to go to classes or therapy to deal with what she was going through rather than take away her custody rights all together. I'm not condoning what the mother did, but I feel like she felt desperate and didn't know how to cope properly, therefore making poor choices. Then when the judge took her custody away, she just lost all hope and went into flight or fight. Unfortunately she has buried herself a huge hole and when she is caught, she won't be seeing anything but a jail cell. It is so sad because all of this could have been handled differently.

Some mother in laws deserve a healthy dose of cold blooded murder. Just my opinion..
