Description

It's our second night in Lahinch. Our day began calm – and even a bit sunny – but now the rain is coming down in buckets, the wind is whistling, and the waves are beating the rocks on the beach below. In other words, it was a perfect Irish day.Atlantic Ocean views from Kilkee Cliff Walk

Victorian Village of Kilkee, County ClareHeading south from Lahinch we followed the Wild Atlantic Way through the small coastal villages of Miltown Malbay, Quilty, and Doonbeg, before stopping in Kilkee. This Victorian village is the ‘entry' to Loop Head Peninsula. Highlights of the town are the Kilkee cliff walk and the pollack holes, natural pools that appear when the tide is out. These crystal clear pools are a popular swimming spot in the summer. Cliff views in KilkeeFor more about Kilkee listen to this podcast with Martina Haugh, co-owner of Emerald Irish Tours (one of my preferred driver guide providers).Traveling in Ireland Podcast Episode 202We had perfect weather for our walk, which was followed by tea and scones at Holly's Cafe, before heading out the Loop Head peninsula for a walk around the lighthouse and an overview of the area. Unfortunately most places were closed as tourism in this area really won't begin until St. Patrick's Day.Loop Head LighthouseWe left the peninsula as the rain began to move in, stopping back in Kilkee for a late lunch at Hickie's Bar, a charming spot at the Bayview Hotel (I recommend the toasted sandwich and fries) before returning to our seaside apartment.
