On this episode of Knowing Me, Knowing You, Trent is joined by clinical psychologist, Dr Liam Casey, to discuss the topic of suicide bereavement. Together, they talk through:



  • Liam’s own lived experience, as well as his professional interest, in working with the queer community around suicide bereavement,

  • The prevalence of suicidality within the queer community,

  • Defining what suicidality is, and what suicide bereavement is,

  • What some of the most common determinants are that lead to suicidality for the queer community,

  • The impacts of “discrimination” on suicidality,

  • How we might feel when experiencing suicide bereavement,

  • What some of the risk and protective factors related to suicidality,

  • The role of ‘grief’ and how it plays out mentally and physically in relation to suicide bereavement,

  • What some of the mental health challenges are that may arise related to suicide bereavement, as well as

  • How stigma can impact those experiencing suicide bereavement.
