LOS ANGELES - Turns out Lamar Odom's knee injury isn't as serious as the Lakers feared.

An MRI conducted Wednesday morning revealed Odom suffered a bone bruise in his right knee when he landed awkwardly Tuesday night. Odom is being listed as day-to-day and could return as soon as Friday against Indiana, though Coach Phil Jackson didn't seem particularly optimistic about that possibility.

"Have you ever had a bone bruise? It takes a while," Jackson said. "I'm not pinning any hopes on that. We'd like to have him play, but we're not planning on that."

That Odom's injury isn't more severe is an especially fortunate break for the Lakers considering the state of their roster. A sore right foot is expected to sideline Luke Walton for at least the next two weeks, while Jordan Farmar likely won't return until after the all-star break as a result of a torn meniscus in his left knee.

The absence of Odom and Walton will mean expanded roles for forwards Josh Powell and Vladimir Radmanovic, both of whom had been playing sparingly. There also could be a significant adjustment for Kobe Bryant, whom Jackson expects to serve as more of a facilitator with Odom out.

"(Odom) plays the guard role in our offense, and Kobe can slip down into the forward spot or the wing spot and be in an attack position," Jackson said. "Now (Bryant) has to be up in the court as a guard more often."

Sun Thrown into Fire

In an effort to ease the burden on Derek Fisher after he logged 41 minutes against New Orleans, Jackson turned to seldom-used rookie Sun Yue for three minutes on Wednesday night. Sun appeared lost defensively, traveled on his first touch on offense and missed his only shot.

Jackson acknowledged Sun's "not ready yet" but said he won't hesitate to play him until the Lakers get healthy.

"Some of it's about advancing the ball, setting up the offense and being comfortable under pressure out there," Jackson said. "He's still learning how to manipulate the offense and get into the positions we want him to be on the floor."

Vlad Still Struggling

Vladimir Radmanovic's second start of the week didn't begin any smoother than the first.

One night after missing 6 of 7 shots, Radmanovic missed his first two at Golden State, fumbled a pass out of bounds and was scorched for 10 first-quarter points by Corey Maggette. He played 13 scoreless minutes, missing all three of his shots.
