Known for his work with artists like Donny Hathaway and Michael Jackson, Upchurchs musical legacy is vast. His wife, Sonya Maddox-Upchurch, described him as a master of chords and emotions. Upchurch recorded nearly thirty albums and contributed to over one thousand recordings, including Chaka Khans Im Every Woman and Michael Jacksons Workin Day and Night. He also performed or recorded with music legends like George Benson, Bob Dylan, and B.B. King. Born in Chicago, Upchurch started playing music at thirteen and became a regular session musician at Chess Records. He authored two instructional music books and his autobiography is set to be released posthumously.
