Description

Welcome to another episode of Let's Talk Human Rights! For this months episode we had the pleasure of talking to Marlies Hesselman. Marlies is a lecturer of international law at the University of Groningen, and also working on her Ph.D on the topic of “Universal access to Modern Energy Services in International Human Rights Law”.  Her expertise resides in areas such as international & European human rights law, socioeconomic human rights law, and energy poverty. We discussed a wide variety of topics, from the legal groundwork that protects the right to health to the outlook of the climate crisis.

The episode is split into 2 parts, with this being part 1. We discuss first Marlies' inspiration for going into Human Rights work, then moving onto the effect of climate change on health. We also touched on the levels of human rights protections that exist, and how these human rights can and are being applied in developing countries as a way to fight for minorities.

We hope you enjoy, learn something, and as always, keep educating and advocating!
