MFXtra: The Scottish Announce Table – Ep 38.
Update: 2021-10-12
Description
Duckman and George ‘The Animal’ Peel are back to bring you news and show reviews in the weird world of pro wrestling. It’s a pro wrestling podcast, with a decidedly Scottish flavour. On the show this week…
It’s been a rough couple of weeks for the lads. George’s Dad has tested positive for Covid (don’t worry, he doing much better). Plus Duckman has been struggling with his mood and mental health. It’s never a bad thing to admit this stuff and talk it out with someone if you can. Thankfully this show is a lifeline for both the lads this week and putting aside real life to talk about wrestling for a few hours is good for the soul. The lads kick off with talk about the recent passing of Reggie Parks, a former wrestler and the man responsible for the design of every title belt in all the major promotions from the 70s to the 2000s. A true unsung hero of the wrestling business.
Duckman has uncovered some ridiculous stories about wrestlers on the road and the ribs they would pull on each other. Some are super cruel and dangerous, others are stupid and funny. Of course, Owen Hart proves once again to be the king of prank phone calls. There’s a ton of AEW chat as the lads discuss the move by WWE to counter programme Rampage this week and how this tactic from WWE reeks of desperation. The lads talk Hangman Page’s return, Sammy Guevara’s TNT Title win, the new Women’s TBS Title announcement, plus a quick look back at some of the main highlights in AEW over the last couple of weeks.
The show is wrapped up with the return of the Random Retro PPV Review! This week it’s WCW Halloween Havoc 1993. It’s another wild WCW show from their pre-Hogan era. We’ve got some incredible matches with Paul Orndorff vs. Ricky Steamboat, Sid vs, Stingm Dustin Rhodes vs. Steve Austin and Lord Steven Regal vs. Davey Boy Smith. There’s some terrible match layouts and booking in the Ric Flair vs. Rick Rude match and the main event Texas Death Match between Vader and Cactus Jack. Nick Patrick once again proves he’s the worst referee of all time. Jesse and Tony aren’t their usual spiky selves on commentary, but it’s still a fun time. The show tails off a lot with the last two matches, but it’s a fun watch and like we always say with WCW, the show is never boring. If you like these retro reviews, remember you can check out our WWF Saturday Night Main Event review shows over on our Patreon. This is a big ass show, covering a ton of ground, with plenty of laughs along the way.
So sit back, relax and get some SATP goodness in your life. Thanks for listening, spread the word of the show and all that good stuff.
