Maduro rejects a ‘slave’s peace’ for Venezuela as US ramps up pressure
Update: 2025-12-02
Description
Venezuela's president has repeated appeals for peace at a huge rally in the capital amid US threats of a military attack. Nicolas Maduro told thousands of supporters that US deployments have been testing his country. Top US officials are meeting at the White House to discuss the next steps against Venezuela. President Donald Trump confirmed on Sunday that he held a phone call with Maduro but declined to give details, saying it did not go “well or badly.” Al Jazeera’s Teresa Bo has more from Cucuta in Colombia, near the border with Venezuela, on how Maduro is trying to allay people's fears. A reminder, Al Jazeera has been trying to report from inside Venezuela, but like most foreign media, we have not been allowed to enter the country at this time.
