New York Citys Mayor-elect, Zohran Mamdani, and his wife, Rama Duwaji, are moving out of their rent-stabilized apartment in Astoria, Queens, to Gracie Mansion, the official mayoral residence. This decision was made for their familys safety and to focus on the affordability agenda. Mamdani, who expressed fondness for Astoria, will change his voter registration to Manhattan, making him a resident of the Twelfth Congressional District. He will retain Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch and bring his chief of staff, Elle Bisgaard-Church, to City Hall. Former First Deputy Mayor Dean Fuleihan will also return to his previous role. Gracie Mansion, built in the late seventeen hundreds, has been the official mayoral residence since the nineteen forties and has seen various mayoral families and dramatic moments.
