First Maria's mom died when she was 7. Then when she was 12 her grandma whom she'd moved in with died. She never had a relationship with dad, and when she was 14, she moved in with her 23 year old sister.
BUT. She's come a long way since and has stories to go with. Such as:
why she refers to her mom as mommy,
why she got free granola for having a dead mom,
the weirdest place she's cried,
and why doesn't miss her mom anymore.
