In February, 2004 Frank Epstein invited me to be a soloist on the New England Conservatory Percussion Ensemble’s “Rendezvous in Rhythm” concert. Along with three of my xylophone medley arrangements I played my piece Palta in the revised version for tabla solo with 6 percussion players, piano and electric bass. Also on the program was Will Hudgins playing Nebojsa Živković’s concerto with wind ensemble From the Center of the Earth, and Anton Fig playing John Beck’s Jazz Variants and David Mancini’s Suite for Solo Drum Set and Percussion Ensemble. The concert took place in beautiful Jordan Hall with a full house. It was a very enjoyable time working with a fine student ensemble and hanging out with Frank, Will and Anton.
