Millions of people protested across the country on Saturday. The “No Kings” demonstrators protested the country’s direction under President Trump. There were local demonstrations in Tampa, Pasco County, St. Petersburg and elsewhere.

More than 1,100 people lined the streets along the Gulfport waterfront in south Pinellas County.

They chanted things like “Donald Trump has got to go.” Karen Stienemeier from South St. Pete
held a sign that read, “No human is illegal” and had images opposing crackdowns on reproductive rights.

“This is a great turnout. I’ve done them downtown. I’ve done them on Tyrone Square. Gulfport is special because the people here are special and different,” Stienemeier said, “And it’s important to resist what’s going on because the consequences for everyone, especially the healthcare things that are upcoming — if they manage to succeed — are terrible for everyone.”

Paula Dube lives in Gulfport and held two signs.

“First one is voices not silence. We want journalism to continue to be able to report on everything and not have to sign documents that say they won’t report what they’re told not to report,” Dube said. “The other side is, protect free speech. Similar reasoning: dictators fall when people rise. It’s gonna take all of us in the community to eliminate this process of dictatorship, authoritarianism, etc.”

People arrived at the No Kings demonstration in Gulfport by car, golf cart, bicycle and on foot. A few wore inflatable costumes.
