NTFS #139 – Lekeisha Pergoliti’s Silver Medal, The Impact of Athletes Asking for Sponsors, and Is the Future of Umpiring Going to be Left to Video?
Description
Welcome to another podcast, can you believe we missed our own 20th Birthday?
Thank you to those of you who were there at the start and are still tuning in.
As usual we have another great guest lined up for you. On this show we catch up with Lekeisha Pergolitti who returned from the World Boxing Championships in the UK with a silver medal. One of three medals the Australian women won. Lekeisha shares with us her journey in the sport and what she hopes for in the future.
In our topics under discussion Ashley asks how damaging it is for a sport or a competition to have its athletes and umpires going on social media asking for sponsorship. Does this actually undermine the sport or competition’s attempts to attract sponsors?
John turns his attention to the umpires and referees, and asks whether sport is heading down a path in which all decisions will ultimately be made by video rather than the eyes of an official? He also raises and intersting point in relation to the identity of officials in televised matches. What will the future look like in this area in many sports?
As mentioned our 20th birthday was last month. Let us know who you would like us to try and talk to in our 20th year and if you would like us to keep going for another ten years.
