New report reveals Netflixs significant contribution to LGBTQ themes in childrens programming, with one-third of all shows rated for kids featuring such content. This trend is particularly prevalent in TV-G and TV-Y seven programs, and even extends to preschoolers shows. Penny Nance, CEO of Concerned Women for America, expresses concern over the widespread integration of these themes, especially in content for the youngest viewers. The study also highlights a parallel rise in LGBTQ identification among young people, with Gallup data showing a doubling of Generation Z LGBTQ self-identification from eleven percent in 2017 to over twenty percent in 2023. This surge in representation in childrens entertainment seemed to spike around 2021, during the COVID lockdown period when children spent more time streaming digital content.
