New Mexicos stunning desert landscapes, once inspiring Georgia OKeeffe, are now protected under a new conservation agreement. This pact ensures continued access to an educational retreat and preserves the areas diverse beauty, from its colorful geology to the grasslands leading down to the Chama River and Abiquiu Lake. The agreement also guarantees some continued access for future film productions and preserves traditional winter grazing rights for local farmers. The state of New Mexico is significantly supporting this initiative through a trust established by lawmakers last year, with an approved state award of nine hundred twenty thousand dollars allocated for easement surveys, transaction costs, and a financial fund to support programs at the adjacent Ghost Ranch Education and Retreat Center.
