Over the weekend the Christian rap community and beyond buzzed after Kendrick Lamar named checked Lecrae and Dee-1. The song is called “watched the party die.” The shout-out was more than clout points; the point was applauding these men for their character and faithfulness.
Lecrae responded by doing his own version of the track. This remix has reached the wider hip-hop community, and universal garnered praise. Many comments say things like, “I was expecting this to be corny,” or “Wow, I didn’t think Christian rap could sound like this.”
Lamar helped open a door for Crae and Dee to a global audience only he could command. So for those condemning this as “worldly validation,” you got it all wrong.
