Occult Disney 27: The Little Mermaid, the Power of Contracts, Paracelsus, Melusine & Little St James
Description
The Little Mermaid is a true Disney classic, and perhaps the most advanced example of Disney mastering the formula and going beyond their usual story writing process. Here we have an inversion of The Golden Bough published in the 1890s, of how the true ruler of any kingdom must capture the daughter and slay her father (the king) to ensure virility and prevent inbreeding.
We also have the inversion of the mermaid story itself (Melusine) in which a mermaid was a beautiful creature without a human soul, and thus not included in reincarnation or afterlife. They simply dissolved into "sea foam" at the end of their life, unless they married a human.
Disney can't allow their protagonist and ancillary merchandising to be based on a character without a soul, so the formula is simply inverted to keep its occult meanings. Truly a fascinating subject once all of the historical context is decoded.
