Join us for a celebration of community and resilience! The Philomathean Charity Literary and Art Club, founded in 1921 by Black women, is being honored with a public plaque unveiling and community gathering. The event, Lifting As We Climb, will take place on December 9, 2025, from 10 AM to noon at 1802 Broadway, followed by a gathering at 1639 18th Street. The club, a mutual aid effort, has created a support system for Black community members and now owns a historic property that houses a barbershop and early childhood education center. The site recently received landmark status, recognizing its historic and ongoing contributions to the community.
