The Rich Young Man comes to Jesus entirely sure of his own religious efforts and abilities. Jesus cuts right to his main nerve and attachment to the world – his wealth. Jesus invites the man to put himself in His care. Jesus still invites us to do so, and the petition “Lead us not into temptation” is one way we can pray to put ourselves into His care, and not our own.
