Speakers: Professor Chris Brewin, Dr Stuart Turner, Chair: Dr Jane Herlihy

Speakers Abstract:
Professor Brewin (UCL), a worldwide expert in the psychological effects of trauma, will present theory and research findings on the formation and recall of traumatic memories. Dr Turner is a Consultant Psychiatrist who has advised the courts as an expert witness for over 25 years. He will consider the implications for asylum claims of theory and knowledge about memory and trauma. Ms Jarvis is a Judge of the Upper Tribunal with consolidated experience as an Immigration Judge and is the author of a study of the factors drawn on by UK adjudicators in their assessment of credibility. Dr Herlihy is the director of the Centre for the Study of Emotion and Law, which works to produce and disseminate psychological research in order to better inform quality decision making for people seeking protection from persecution and human rights abuses.
