Description

The unimaginable happened in the Philippines' 2022 presidential election, which had been anticipated for a long time: Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., son of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr., succeeded the controversial Rodrigo Duterte as president.

Given that Marcos Sr., his father, held power for a duration of 21 years, which including a period of 14 years under martial law, the Philippines is finally getting a taste of real democracy for the first time ever! But those who lived through martial law were not having it. The dictatorship of his father was absolutely terrible, while his mother was famous for her massive shoe collection. They straight up didn't want to accept Bongbong as president and refused to acknowledge its legitimacy.

So how did Bongbong, or 64-year-old Ferdinand Marcos Jr., become the frontrunner in the Philippines' presidential election on May 9?
