From 1998 to 2001, President Joseph Estrada was in charge, and Vice President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo worked for him. She was the first woman to take that job, which made history. Even though the country was in a mess because of the political and economic crisis and other important problems, Estrada left Arroyo. Because of this, it was hard for her to gain the trust of the Filipino people and the investors.

Also, she had to make more money to improve the quality of life in the Philippines. Basically, Arroyo was trying to help the Filipinos bounce back and get back on track. However, during her first term as president, there was this group of insurgents that totally caused her a ton of distress and messed up her ability to go after her goals, turning her life into a constant nightmare.
