Roscoe-Roscoe in session tonight – recorded on September 4, 2020 for FarmFest 2020.
If memory serves, this session comes smack in the middle of COVID lockdown when bands were suffering isolation and fighting to keep the spirit of their music alive.
Roscoe-Roscoe is a lovely band, clearly carving a niche in the New Psychedelia genre and making it their own.
I ran across their bio when I was digging around to see what their story was – and here it is, straight from their website.
East London’s Roscoe Roscoe fuse the epic, ’wall-of-sound’ guitars of Shoegaze and Post Rock combined with massive instrumental compostions, drawing sonic influences from 90’s
genre pioneers ‘My Bloody Valentine’ & ‘Sigur Ros’, to the vast, acoustic arrangments of The Beach Boys’ ‘Pet Sounds’.
The band formed towards the end of their time at performing arts college ‘The Brit School’ (previous allumni including Black Midi, King Krule & Olivia Dean). With a shared love and organic compatiblity to make music, they went on to release a spell of singles on altindie label ‘Slow Dance Records’ (PVA, Sarah Meth) attracting the likes of So Young Mag calling them ‘’shoegazey heart stealers’’ watching their 2021 Greenman performance and NME, whom stated the band made ’’searing hot neo-psychedelic music’’.
The new single introduces a hightened attention to emotional detail within the progression of the band’s writing and composition, exploring both the elements of sparse and reverbed acoustic instruments to full blown guitar driven psychedlia, akin to recent support slots including The Orielles, Ulrika Spacek’s fronted, side project; Astrel K and Los Angelies
shoegazeres; Dummy.
The 6 Piece are Front persons, writers and guitarists; Charlie Read Clarke and Jacob Muna, keys player; Milanka Caballero, bassist; Suzie Nichols, acoustic guitarist; Will Nichols and
drummer; Joe Bourdier.
FFO: Ulrika Spacek, My Bloody Valentine, Stereolab, The Beach Boys, Sigur Ros, Dungen.
Since the pandemic was declared more or less over and the music community were scrambling to pick up where they left off, Roscoe-Roscoe have been touring almost non-stop, grabbing mostly club dates. The end result so far has been a growing legion of fans which only is increasing with each gig.
Have a listen and enjoy.
