STI Care Now is a confidential service, offered by Nova Scotia Health, to those seeking STI (sexually transmitted infection) testing and linkage to care. The goal is to help people 15 years and older get tested and treated for gonorrhea and chlamydia, and screened for HIV, through free self-testing kits and virtual care. In this episode, PANS' Lisa Woodill meets with Dr. Tasha Ramsey, the Nova Scotia Health (NSH) Clinical Therapeutics and Prophylactics Lead for Emerging and Re-Emerging Infections to discuss the program, to chat more about the program and how a team of NSH pharmacists who are experts in STI management are providing all virtual appointments, prescriptions and care connections for patients. Pharmacy professionals will learn how to refer patients, how the process works, and details about prescriptions they may receive from the team, and tips regarding the injection of ceftriaxone which is sometimes a prescribed treatment.

Dr. Tasha Ramsey is the Nova Scotia Health Clinical Therapeutics and Prophylactics Lead for Emerging and Re-Emerging Infections and an Assistant Professor at Dalhousie University’s College of Pharmacy. She is a member of the Emerging and Re-emerging Infections Network, the co-chair of the Nova Scotia Emerging and Re-emerging Infections Therapeutics and Prophylactics Recommendation Group, and the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists representative for Immunize Canada.
