If you’ve been a fan of this show, you know that one of my favorite production eras is 1978-82-ish, and that many of my heart artists are New Wave.
So you can imagine how psyched I was to discover the Dylan Jones book, Sweet Dreams: The Story of the New Romantics. It’s a first-person chronicle of music’s evolution from punk to post-punk to New Wave – known in the UK as New Romantic – spanning 1975-85.
That’s the subject of my ninth Book Talk. I describe the book in detail, give my take on some of the ideas put forth, and weigh in on whether or not it’s a worthy read.
Have you read this book? How familiar are you with music history spanning 1975-85, especially in the UK? What artists from that era – if any – are your favorites? Were you aware how different the UK fan experience is from US fans? Discuss dammit!
