Our guest is a rapper and hip hop artist whose messages are not what you would expect.
His philosophy is rooted in his experiences growing-up in the Shady 80’s, a violent neighborhood in Oakland, California, and as you might expect he has stared down the barrel of gun.
That had a profound effect on him. His mom did too and still does. She moved her family to Sacramento where he found refuge in college.
But DeWayne Lamont found a lot more than that: a catalyst for his transformation into an enlightened artist, inspirational speaker, and motivational leader.
Mom calls him DeWayne. We call him Consci8us.
We caught up with Consci8us at a Black History Month event at Cal State Sacramento where he was suddenly scheduled to perform.
