Description

We find out why Chief Football Commentator at ITV and talkSPORT, Sam Matterface gets rid of mobile phones at matches, how he’s reorganising the football calendar and which moment from the Champions League final 2018 still brings him to tears.

Sam Matterface has been working on sport radio for over 30 years. In 2010, he was hired as the Chief Football Commentator for national radio station talkSPORT and since then has continued to cover Premier League, European and International football across the world. In 2020, Sam took over from Clive Tyldesley as ITV’s Lead Commentator, covering all major England games since then, including the 2020 Euro’s and the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers.

The Football Gods gives famous faces the ultimate footballing role: total power over the beautiful game. Listen as they shape football to their whim and ultimately become The Football Gods. Join our hosts - broadcaster Kate Mason and journalist Tim Spiers - as we ponder the all-important questions such as...“Which player would you send to hell?”, “What flavour pie would be considered the food of the Gods?” and “Which game would you watch forever?”

Given the power, how would you change football?
