Sci-Fi, Horror, Lovecraft, and London in the 80's with Sculptor Colin Christian
Update: 2020-03-02
Description
With influences such as H.P. Lovecraft and H.R. Giger, Colin Christian brings a unique, sexy, sci-fi, horror genre into the art world with seven foot tall sculptures and tantalizingly alluring scenes of horror mixed with beauty. This is Episode #2 of The Saturated Life, hosted by Gabe Wells. Colin Christian is a sculptor that finds his inspiration in old sci-fi movies, pinup girl/supermodels, anime, ambient electronic music and H.P. Lovecraft. Using silicone to create his sculptures he is able to achieve his goal of true cartoon realism, a line drawing made flesh. We discussed his sculpting techniques, his love of H.P. Lovecraft and how Lovecraft has influenced modern art in a significant way, along with why he is an atheist, and how that shapes his view of the world. Colin talked about growing up in London, when it wasn't the cultural economic epicenter it is now, and working in as a DJ, where he met his wife Sas. How they moved to the United States to pursue their dreams, which eventually lead to both of them becoming full time creators.
