Defining intimacy holistically

Gary discusses all the parts of a person, all the aspects of their psychology, when discussing intimacy. It is not just about the good things because it includes integrating the tough aspects as well. 



The shadow parts … that we try to exile from ourselves because they’re too painful to acknowledge, those are the parts that end up coming back and biting us in the butt or getting us into trouble because they’re not honored. So to me, intimacy is about seeing the totality of ourselves and all of those parts, and if I’m able to look at it straight on, then it’s more likely I’ll share it with you, but if I can’t even look at it, then there’s no way in hell I’ll share it with you.
