A three-time Associated Press Coach of the Year, Lower Merion High School Head Coach Gregg Downer has been named “Best Basketball Coach in Pennsylvania” by USA Today and has amassed more than 600 career victories, three state championships, 17 league titles and a 70% winning percentage. More than 70 of Downer’s players have gone on to play basketball at the college and professional levels, including NBA MVP Kobe Bryant ‘96. Downer is an inductee in three sports hall of fames in Pennsylvania and is among the most successful youth coaches in the United States. Before his passing, Bryant called Downer “one of the best coaches I have ever had.”
