Description

Tampa author Aracelis González Asendorf explores the Cuban immigrant experience in America after their homeland falls under the grip of Fidel Castro in her book, Dressing the Saints.

Published in January 2024, the book received a Gold Award for General Fiction in the 2024 Florida Book Awards and was featured by the Florida Humanities, the state affiliated of the National Endowment for Humanities, at the National Book Festival sponsored by the Library of Congress in September.

Set in the made-up town of Coquina Shores, the stories are all works of fiction. Inspiration, though, came from recollections of family and friends and her own experiences.

Asendorf spoke about the book with Janet Scherberger, guest host of WMNF’s Down ‘n Dirty on September 26.

She said she chose to write the book to document the stories of a generation of people who are reaching the ends of their lives.
