Sligo Councillor questions how effective new Community Safety Partnership committee will be

Description

A cautious welcome is being given to the first sitting of the Sligo Community Safety Partnership committee.

 

It's to replace the Joint Policing Committee, where a number of senior Gardai met with Sligo County Councillors several times a year.

 

Local media who previously attended the meetings and reported on various crime statistics and data are no longer permitted to do so.

 

Sligo's first meeting is to take place on December 8th with the innovative model said to mark a significant shift towards a more holistic and community-led approach to public safety.

 

But Deputy Major of the Sligo Borough and Sinn Fein Cllr Arthur Gibbons isn't sure if it'll be as effective:
