Brisbanes Story Bridge, a vital transport link, is set for a high-tech upgrade with a new data-driven system to monitor its structural health. Led by Professor Tommy Chan from QUT, the team aims to ensure the bridges longevity by replacing elements as needed, rather than waiting for problems to become critical. The project, if funded, will deploy sensors across the structure to detect and predict damage, pinpoint its location, assess its severity, and continuously monitor the bridges performance and remaining life. The goal is to move from reactive repairs to predictive management, helping Australias infrastructure catch up with the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
