Summit Fire & EMS shares reminder to change smoke alarms while adjusting clocks
Description
With daylight saving time ending Sunday, Nov. 2, Summit Fire & EMS shared a reminder in a news release that turning back your clocks is a good time to replace your smoke and carbon-monoxide detector batteries.
Scott Benson, the Summit Fire division chief and fire marshal, said in the release that changing the batteries twice a year when you adjust your clocks is a “quick and easy way to enhance your family’s safety.”
“Don’t underestimate the importance of functioning smoke detectors,” Benson’s quote stated. “They truly can make the difference between life and death in a fire.”
Carbon-monoxide detectors are important at the start of the winter as people turn on furnaces and fireplaces for the first time in months, the release stated, as they will alert residents of any malfunctions.
The release also includes reminders to test alarms after changing batteries, clean dust and cobwebs from them and review and practice your family’s escape plan in case there is a fire.
