Superconducting Cables Revolutionize Data Centers
Update: 2025-11-12
Description
Veir, a startup backed by Microsoft, unveils superconducting cables for data centers. These cables, cooled by liquid nitrogen, are twenty times smaller than copper cables and can carry power five times farther. They can deliver three megawatts of low-voltage electricity, significantly more than current solutions. Veir plans to pilot these cables in actual data centers next year, with a full commercial launch expected in 2027. The data center community eagerly awaits such innovations to meet the growing power demands of AI and other data-intensive applications.
