The SA Red Cross Air Mercy Service (AMS) saves lives across South Africa, delivering emergency medical care and rural health outreach. AMS CEO Farhaad Haffejee speaks to Lester Kiewit about their helicopter fundraising initiative, which supports these missions and their training programme for pilots, mechanics, medics, and other emergency roles. He also explains how public support and awareness are crucial to keeping these essential services in the air and developing the next generation of aero-medical professionals. As part of their fundraising efforts, AMS launches their second helicopter competition. Tickets cost R250 and are available on Webtickets or at Pick n Pay stores. The lucky winner enjoys a scenic helicopter ride for four over Cape Town’s iconic coastline and landmarks, a harbour boat tour, and an overnight stay for two at Kaya La Provence guesthouse, valued at R19,000. The winner is drawn on 5 December 2025, and there is no limit to how many tickets each person can buy.
