Description

On this week’s edition of Sustainability Now!, your host, Justin Mog, dusts off his solar panels for a chat with Judi Jennings and Nancy Tierney, two Louisville-based members of Kentuckians for the Commonwealth (KFTC). We discuss their grassroots efforts to build a Just Transition for Kentucky, both the history of this work and the relevance today in terms of environmental and human health and the economy. We also discuss the links between regions of the Commonwealth, including why residents of urban areas should care about the coal industry and the lives of miners.

Judi and Nancy share information on the current state of renewable energy in Kentucky and the focus on solar despite the passage of SB100, the anti-net metering bill. A 100% Renewable Energy resolution, for instance, is currently working its way to Metro Council, and Kentucky youth from the Sunrise Movement have helped elevate national interest in a Green New Deal.
