With 175,000 Russian troops poised to invade Ukraine, President Vladimir Putin seeks security guarantees from the west, essentially depriving Ukraine of the right to join NATO and other measures aimed at protecting Russia's border. But the concessions he demands are too great in the eyes of NATO, the U.S. and Western European allies. Will it come down to Russia invading Ukraine to "reclaim" a former Soviet Union republic like it did with Crimea in 2014, or can a peaceful solution be reached?
