Behind every wagging tail and grateful purr lies astory of resilience β not just of animals, but of the people who care for them.In this deeply moving Episode 2, Part 1 of Tails of Hope Season 2, we welcome Dr. Ceri Lewis Moore, a small-animal veterinarian whose 14+ years in practice have spanned farm, equine, and mixed practice before settling into small animal care.
Ceriβs story is not only about medicine. Itβs aboutcompassion, perseverance, and the untold challenges vets face daily β especially when financial realities collide with the desire to give animals the very best.
Ceri opens up about what it means to practice in rural areas of Wales and Shropshire, where resources are limited, budgets are tight, and yet the love for animals runs deep. She shares the hard but necessary conversations withclients about balancing costs and care β and how empathy, honesty, and creativity are vital tools in a vetβs kit, alongside medicine.
But what makes Ceriβs voice so unique is her openness about mental health in the veterinary profession. In a fieldwhere burnout, compassion fatigue, and βthe black dogβ of depression are sadly common, she champions the belief that every voice matters β no matter how quiet. Her own mantra, #dontlettheblackdogbeatyou (unless itβs a Labrador),is more than a hashtag; itβs a rallying cry for authenticity, vulnerability, and hope.
Beyond the clinic, she is also a creative writer, aworking mum of three country kids, and someone who embraces lifeβs diversity β from the military to human medicine to veterinary science. Her βwonky careerpath,β as she calls it, has given her a gift: the ability to connect with almost anyone, human or animal, with empathy and ease.
Why should you listen to this episode? Because it goes beyond pets and practice. It dives into universal themes of balance, resilience, and mental health β lessons anyone can carry into their own lives.
