Tasmanian sailor Ken Gourlay holds the record for the fastest Australian to sail solo, non-stop and unassisted around the world, completing the sail in 179 days, 21 hours, 37 minutes and 58 seconds

At the time, his son Tristan Gourlay told ABC News that he was ready to follow in his dad's footsteps.

Fast forward almost twenty years and that dream is finally coming to fruition with Tristan preparing to sail off this week in an attempt to break his father's record.
